On behalf of the Federal Environment Agency, INTECUS conducted a representative online survey to derive volume data on custom fires and bonfires for emission reporting. Communities throughout Germany were surveyed about their customs and bonfire activities, after which median and mean values were used to extrapolate the results to Germany. Due to wide variations in the data, the estimated number ranges from 103,024 to 316,459 fires. For the calculation of associated air pollutant emissions, an assessment of the development over time was also carried out. The results will serve for the publication of emission calculations in 2019.
